Koufonisia — 4 Day Guide

Beaches, food & nightlife packed into four perfect days.

No car needed Beach hopping Hidden gems Party nights

Day 1 — Arrival & Chill 🐚

Morning

Arrive, check-in, take it easy. Stop by Fournos Giorgoula for coffee & snacks. Small seating area — come early in high season to get a table. Perfect place to grab bakery goods to take to the beach.

First swims (walk from port): Ammos (~5′), Finikas (~15′), Fanos (~20′).

For a proper sit-down brunch, try Kalamia Café.

Afternoon

🍽️

If you choose Finikas Beach, right behind it there’s Finikas Tavern for a relaxed lunch.

🍹

If you go to Fanos Beach, you’ll find Fanos Beach Bar with coffee, food, cocktails, plus sunbeds & umbrellas.

🐟

Next to Finikas is the well-known Chondros Kavos — fresh fish and local meats, home-style cooking, with a stunning view of Keros.

Dinner

Almira kai Pioto — creative Greek cuisine in Chora. After dinner, stroll the village and visit Agios Georgios church and the Folklore Museum.

Night

Sorokos Bar — first island cocktail by the sea.

💡 Beach prep: Bring water, sunscreen & shade — limited natural shade at Fanos and Finikas.

Day 2 — Beach Line & Natural Pool 🏝️

Morning

Breakfast at Opsianos or LaggonaLaggona has healthy choices like fruit salads, cereal bars, fresh juices, and coffee. Or grab-and-go from Giorgoula. Pack water, hat, sunscreen, snorkel mask.

Boat Taxis 🚤

Two boats — Prasinos (Green) & Mavros (Black) — every ~30′. Round-trip ~€7.5. Stops: Finikas → Fanos → Italida → Pori. Check schedules boat schedules.

Beach Route

Great route: get off at Pori and walk towards Italida, passing:

  • Devil’s Eye cave
  • ~3′ later: the Natural Pool (guide & location)
  • ~5′ more: Italida Beach
⚠️ Italida: No umbrellas or beach bar — stock up in town before you go.

Lunch / Afternoon

  • Kalofeggo — casual all-day with creative dishes and beautiful bay views.
  • Wave Restaurant — upscale seaside, seafood & daily specials.

Evening

  • Mixalios Grill House — expertly grilled meats, generous portions.
  • Kapetan Nikolas — classic fresh-fish tavern.
  • Astrolouloudo — lively cocktails on a pedestrian lane.
  • Mylos — sea-view drinks with island breeze.

Day 3 — Kato Koufonisi & Party Night 🚤🎉

Morning

Sofia’s Café — perfect breakfast start with omelets, eggs, hearty options. Or quick grab-and-go at Giorgoula.

Excursion

Boat to Kato Koufonisi — peaceful coves: Nero, Lakkoi, Hawaii. Lunch at Taverna Venetsanos. Alternative: head back to your favorite main-island beach (Pori, Italida, or Fanos).

Back to Town & Night

Coffee/drink at Kyma, quick rest & change. Dinner at Neo Remezzo. Final party at Nelipot — dance till sunrise.

Summary

Day 1: Close beaches + Sorokos • Day 2: Beach line + Natural Pool + Astrolouloudo/Mylos • Day 3: Kato Koufonisi + Neo Remezzo + Nelipot

Day 4 — Gala Viewpoint, Pori & Italida 🌊

Gala Beach (Read Before You Go)

⚠️ Not for swimming.
Gala Beach is not suitable for a swim.
  • Access is challenging — you must descend over rocks.
  • A landslide occurred in winter 2025, so it does not look like the photos you see online.
  • Visit it only as a landmark/viewpoint to see and photograph its unique rock formations — not for spending the day there.

Why Visit

Gala offers dramatic scenery and impressive rock formations. It's worth a quick stop to see, take some photos, and include in your day trip — but not to stay for swimming.

Getting There

  • Located near Pori.
  • Go by boat taxi (get off at Pori stop) or walk from town.
  • Exact location: View on Google Maps

Where to Swim Instead

If you head that way, swim at Pori.

⚠️ Wind Tip: On very windy days, Pori gets intense sandblasting, which is unpleasant. In that case, choose Italida — it's the closest, more sheltered beach.

Lunch Options

If you stay at Pori after swimming:

  • Wave Restaurant — upscale cuisine with a sea view.
  • Kalofeggo — casual all-day spot with creative dishes.

If you return to town first for a rest and then want something quick like souvlaki, try Strofi. There’s almost always a line, but trust me, it’s worth the wait!

Nightlife

  • Colors — after midnight, the party begins with loud music, dancing, and drinks.
  • Stou Lolou — for a more traditional night out with live music, meze, dancing, and plenty of raki or wine. The vibe is cozy, and everyone ends up as one big happy group.
