Cyclades hiking gear, shoes, backpack and sunscreen

If you are planning hiking on the Cyclades islands, then having the right Cyclades hiking gear is one of the most important things. From the trail to Pori beach in Koufonisia to the hiking paths of Amorgos, every route comes with sun, rocks and endless sea views. Maria, of course, started out in flip flops, and then bought proper hiking shoes, spoiler, the ones you see below.

🎒 The essentials you need on every trail

To avoid getting burned, thirsty or lost on the rocks of Amorgos, here is what every Cyclades hiker should have in their backpack.

👟 Hiking shoes

Non slip, light and ready for stones, narrow paths and every “Maria, I cannot walk any further” moment.

🎒 Daypack backpack

Around twenty litres of freedom, enough space for water, sunscreen and, of course, a pastry from the island bakery.

🧢 Sun hat

On the Cyclades, the sun is beautiful and brutal at the same time. A good sun hat protects your face, your neck and your mood.

⌚ GPS watch

To track every step until the next viewpoint. A GPS watch is especially useful on islands with more complex trails, like Amorgos.

💧 Thermal flask

For water that stays cold for hours. A must for long routes and every “pilgrimage” to a chapel on the top of the hill.

🔋 Power bank

So that you never run out of GPS, or selfie power, at the summit. Maria learned the hard way when her phone died at thirty percent.

🧴 Sunscreen and after sun care

Cyclades hiking gear without sunscreen is a risky choice. Use SPF 50, reapply during the hike and treat your skin with a hydrating product afterwards.

🌿 Extra tip

Every Cyclades trail hides a story, a viewpoint and a little bit of sea salt in your sweat. After your hike, jump into the water at one of the hidden beaches of Koufonisia, and you will understand why the island always rewards you in the end.
